Dresden is the capital of the Free State of Saxony. Dresden was heavily bombed during the Second World War. But a large part of the old town and many of its historic houses were repaired after the war. Dresden's pride is certainly the Frauenkirche, a baroque church known for its dome. Also worth seeing are Zwinger Castle, the Semper Opera House and Dresden Castle. The State Art Museum is located in the castle.
